Paris But Not For Wedding Photography

In June this year I travelled to Paris for some photography in one of my all time favourite cities.

Despite the flight from London Luton into Paris being delayed by over 90 minutes and the hotel in the Quartier Latin being, well let’s say, a little retro in style, the trip was a complete joy.

The hotel was located near to the fabulous Jardin du Luxembourg which became my starting point for a wander through the Parisian centre on day 1 of the stay. Luxembourg is also only a short walk from the bustling area of St Germain which features so many bars, restaurants, shops of all types and art establishments which could easily keep you occupied for a full week of interest and people watching. It also gives easy access to all of the great sites along the banks of the River Seine.

The morning was spent strolling along the left bank looking at the various stalls selling everything from Vogue prints to the usual tourist things like statuettes of the Eiffel Tower, then across the river to Les Halles and the Louvre, through the Jardin du Tuileries leading on to the Place de la Concorde, then back across the Seine towards the Eiffel Tower. A lovely walk despite the crowds and the extreme heat which was apparently in the mid 30s centigrade.

Anyway, the purpose of the trip was to shoot some fashion with models Romanie Smith and Jenny O’Sullivan and after the touristy images below there are some examples of what we did. At the end of the image gallery is one of my favourite pictures. Totally unplanned, this is an image of a real character in St Germain. An artist who was selling his watercolour paintings outside the church of St Germain des Pres.

A fabulous and enjoyable two days in Paris.
